In viewing the 2015 TCM “Summer of Darkness” series- I found a key component to the success of Noir movies is the masterful artistic impact of three-time Oscar winner composer Miklos Rozsa’s scores. Great filmmakers like Jules Dassin in Brute Force (1947); Robert Siodmak in The Killers (1946) and Criss Cross (1949); and Billy Wilder in Double Indemnity (1944) utilized Rozsa’s foreboding, sometimes romantic melodies and rhythms to enhance their dark images—we can hear the twists and turns of Noir on the soundtrack!
